General Characteristics 

  • ReadyTrace uses product registration, not user registration, to issue recall notices.

  • The current product user need not be the original owner.

  • No user action is necessary to receive product recall alert notice.

  • In the event of a recall, product notices will be issued at no additional cost to manufacturer.

  • The Product Notice Receiver (PNR) permanently records messages sent to it.

  • Rapid simultaneous notice is sent to multiple units being recalled.

  • Higher recall effectiveness is expected by using ReadyTrace.

  • Possible reductions in product liability costs may lower unit costs to manufacturer, retailer, and consumer.

  • For particularly dangerous malfunctions, the PNR can also disable the unit.

 

 
RT0301

     This is an IC chip that is intended for use in powered, but untethered products. Those are products that use electrical power but are generally not connected to an AC convenience outlet. Such products include portable electronic games, battery operated power tools, portable electronics such as CD players, and many more. This PNR will run on battery level voltages and will include the following functions:

  • Radio Frequency (RF) Receiver.

  • Time-Clock.

  • Time-Slot Detector.

  • Non-Volatile Memory.

  • In-Use Detector.

  • User Notice Acknowledge.

  • Product Disable/Enable.

  • Wireless Programming Interface / RFID.

 

RT0302

     This PNR is RT0301 based and is also intended for use in powered, untethered products. This chip will include all of the RT0301 capabilities, including the following:

  • Text messaging.

 

RT0303

     This PNR is RT0301 based and is intended for use in powered, tethered products. These are products that use electrical power from convenience outlet. Such product include household appliances, entertainment electronics, certain types of power tools and medical apparatus, and many more. This chip will include all of the RT0301 capabilities, including the following:

  • Operate the RT0303 from AC power.

 

RT0304

     This PNR is RT0302 based. It is intended for use in the automobiles and generally in products that are assembled from a variety of components. This chip will include all of the RT0302 capabilities, including the following:

  • Subordinate product intereface.

RTM02

     This is a self-contained PNR module that is based on RT0301. In addition to the RT0301 IC chip, this module contains a long-life battery and a light-emitting-diode (LED). The LED is the visual indicator to the user and will flash when a product notice, such as a recall notice, is sent to the RTM02. This module is intended for use in unpowered products. Such products include baby car seats, cribs, strollers, bicycles, furnaces, and many others.
